Rotherham

Within Rotherham, there are two School Sport Partnerships; Rawmarsh and Wickersley. Together they cover 16 Secondary schools, 103 Primaries and 6 Special schools. Although each SSP has a different focus, both have the same ultimate goal: - to improve the opportunities in sport and physical education for all young people at all levels. Since the appointment of the Competition Manager within Rotherham, the two partnerships have been working to assess and evaluate the effectiveness behind the inter-school competition structure currently being followed. Adaptions have already been made in the last 18 months and further will be throughout this academic year to ensure the most effective and nationally-driven competition structure as possible.

In the 2008-9 Academic year, Rotherham was represented in more County Finals than ever before in more sports, through the clearer competition structures and pathways outlined by the Competition Manager. As a result, Rotherham schools have achieved great success at National Level such as Aston Comprehensive School becoming National Champions in both the Y11 Girls Rounders and Y9 Mixed Rounders.

The main focus areas for development for Primary Competitions in Rotherham in 2009/10 are:
Y5/6 Girls Kwik Cricket
Y3/4 & Y5/6 Key Steps Gymnastics
Y1/2 Multi Skills
Y5/6 Mini Hockey

The main focus areas for development for Secondary Competitions in Rotherham in 2009/10 are:
U14 Boys & Girls Basketball
U13 (Y7&8) Indoor Athletics
KS3 & 4 Cheerleading
KS3 & 4 Trampolining
U13 Table Tennis
U14 & U16 Futsal

Louise White

Hi I’m Louise White, Rotherham Competition Manager. Within Rotherham, I work with Rawmarsh and Wickersley School Sport Partnerships to increase the quality and structure of competitive opportunities for young people. I am based within the Rawmarsh SSP team but work with both sets of School Sports Coordinators to provide clear structures and pathways for inter-school competition, working towards the National Competition Framework.

Before starting this role in April 2008, I worked in Sport Development in Leeds coordinating a school sport scheme after finishing my BSc Sports Science with Management degree at Loughborough University in 2005.

My main interest outside of work is attending dance classes in latin, ballroom and street. I am a Sheffield Steelers Ice Hockey fan, attending both home and away games during the season and I have now been attending Body Combat classes for over a year, so be warned!!
