The athletes competing in the Under 13's Indoor Athletics County final were extremely excited to be presented to by the current world champion in Heptathlon, Jessica Ennis.  Jessica was training at the time and very kindly agreed to give up her valuable training time to present the awards to all the athletes, including the County champions Hungerhill School from Doncaster.  All the athletes were inspired to see her there.

Sheffield High School Pupils Umpire at High 5 County Final

The South Yorkshire Competition Manager team would like to say a massive thank you to Georgia, Amaka, Amy, Katie, Sara, Maria and Sadie, from Sheffield High School, who did a fantastic job of umpiring the matches at the County High 5 Netball final.  All the girls showed extreme professionalism throughout and without them the final would not have been the success that it was.  We would like to wish all the girls the best of luck in their umpiring assessment!

South Yorkshire visited by International female Cricket players

South Yorkshire were very excited to welcome two England International female cricketers to their girls under 13s and under 15s Inter Cricket County finals held on Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th November at Barnsley Metrodome Leisure Centre.

Sarah Taylor visited us on Mondays final and Katherine Brunt on Tuesdays final. Both players are extremely successful England International players, having experienced world cup and Ashes success with the England team, and it was a delight to have them come along to see the talent that we have in female cricket in South Yorkshire. All the girls attending the competition were excited to see the players there and it was inspirational to have both players present the awards and to show the girls what they could achieve if they worked at it.

ThSheffield Competitione finals were made up, on both occasions, of eight teams with the top two teams from Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield battling it out for the title of South Yorkshire Girls’ Inter Cricket County Champions, with a place at Headingley riding on the outcome of the competition. The under 13s crown was taken by the Doncaster school, Don Valley, with Park Academy School from Sheffield taking the runners up spot. Sheffield schools dominated the under 15s competition as Silverdale School were well deserved winners showing their strength against a talented Westfield School team. All four school teams now go on to represent South Yorkshire at Headingley in the Yorkshire Round of the inter cricket competition and we wish them all the best of luck and feel sure that they will do South Yorkshire proud.

The competition manager team would like to say a massive thank you to Sarah and Katherine for coming down and making the County final such a prestigious event and also to Barnsley Premier Leisure for providing the facility and equipment for us!
