Doncaster

Hi, I am James Ward, Competition Manager for Doncaster. I am currently based at Rossington All Saints School in Doncaster. The Borough has two School Sport Partnerships that work across the whole town. Get Active covers the north and west of the borough and Flying High covers the south and the east. Both partnerships work closely together to support and develop the provision and delivery of quality PE and Sport across Doncaster, to ensure participation and encourage physical activity to be a regular part of every young person’s life.

I studied a degree in Sport, Health, Exercise and Nutrition at Leeds University and have been involved in the field of sport ever since. I did voluntary work at Active Doncaster within their sports development team before becoming a Community Cricket and Multi Skills Coach for the Get Active School Sports Partnership. I then moved on to be Further Education Sports Coordinator at Doncaster College. As Competition Manager in Doncaster my major focus over the coming 12 months will be to implement the National Competition Framework as well as identifying and filling gaps highlighted at a local level. This year will see a big push to increase the involvement of Y3 & 4 and all secondary school year groups in inter school competitions. I enjoy playing almost any sport on offer, but in particular cricket and football. I have represented Yorkshire Academy at cricket and currently play for Pool CC in Leeds. I also play football in the winter months on both Saturdays and Sundays. As well as playing sport I also enjoy coaching. I am heavily involved with both the winter and summer cricket coaching programs at Pool CC and also coach sides for the Doncaster District.I hope my experiences working in the field of sport along with playing sport to a high standard will help me to successfully implement the National Competition Framework in Doncaster, giving young people of the Borough the chance to compete and excel in their chosen sports.
