BarnsleyWithin Barnsley there are 2 School Sport Partnerships (SSPs) Priory and Holgate. Together they cover 79 primary, 15 secondary, which include 2 Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools across the area. Both partnerships work closely together to support and develop the provision and delivery of quality PE and Sport across Barnsley, to ensure participation and encourage lifelong activity for all age ranges – Key Stage 1-4 and Barnsley College. Various competitions are already in place but the appointment of the Competition Manager will see competitions become strategically aligned within South Yorkshire and ensure effective communication with all key partners such as National Governing Body Awards, SSPs, SSCOs, PLTs and Local Clubs. Adaptions have already been made and further will be throughout the academic year to ensure the most effective and nationally driven competition structure as possible. My job is to identify gaps in competition provision and how we can fill them, see where we can expand and develop existing competition and most of all how to make competition accessible to all. The Gifted and Talented programme will also be a main focus of work where I will be looking to develop pathways and academies for all young people involved. Working with disabled young people from SEN and mainstream schools is also a priority. I am originally from Birmingham and after studying a degree in Leisure and Sport Studies for 3 years at Leeds Metropolitan University I worked in Warwickshire for the Lawn Tennis Association. I have now settled in Sheffield and have been in the post of Competition Manager since April 2008. Before this I worked in Sheffield for 4 years for Activity Sheffield in sport and community development. I enjoy all sports and play tennis and golf regularly. I have been a qualified tennis coach for 3 years and coach on a regular basis to all standards. I am hoping that my experience in sports development and being involved in playing sport to a high standard will assist and contribute to my role as Competition Manager. |
